According to a report by The Scottish Sun, Oxford United are close to completing the signing of Partick Thistle star Liam Lindsay.

Liam Lindsay has been a long-term target for a number of English clubs from the Championship and League One and Oxford United have emerged as the surprise favourites to wrap the deal up.

A fee has been agreed between Oxford United and Partick Thistle with the sum thought to initially be in the region of £350,000 but it is likely to rise significantly with add-ons and clauses.

The promising young Scotsman has travelled to England to talk about personal terms with the U's but has interest from elsewhere and will consider his options.

Liam Lindsay was one of Partick's standout performers last season as he helped the Jags finish 6th in the Scottish Premiership.

The 21-year-old, who is being tipped for a call-up to the Scotland national team, has earned plenty of admirers recently, including Championship promotion hopefuls Leeds United.

Bolton Wanderers and Charlton Athletic have also been credited with an interest in the young Scotsman during the summer transfer window.

Lindsay is a towering centre half who has demonstrated maturity and composure beyond his years in the top flight of Scottish football last season.

His performances were recognised as he was named in the Scottish Premiership Team of the Season last year and Oxford could pull off a major coup if they can sneak ahead of the chasing pack and land him.
