Despite their admirable performance in Friday night's narrow defeat to Derby County, Reading's attention should not be turned from the transfer window just yet.

Paul Clement has brought in seven new faces this summer with Marc McNulty, Sam Baldock, Sam Walker, John O'Shea, Darren Sidoel, Andy Yiadom and David Meyler arriving at the Madjeski.

But more will be needed if the Royals are to steer clear of a relegation scrap this season and push towards the right end of the table.

Four men have also left the club in the form of Jonathan Bond, Joseph Mendes, Deniss Rakels and George Evans.

So despite their impressive showing on Friday, the Royals still have work to do before they have a squad capable of performing to a decent level for the whole season.

Here are two signings that Paul Clement should be looking to make before Thursday.

With interest in first choice centre-back Liam Moore showing no sign of letting up, it would be wise of Reading to bring in a new man capable of slotting straight in.

That man should be Hull City's Angus MacDonald. His price may be slightly inflated having only moved to the Yorkshire club in January from Barnsley but at 25 he will be approaching his prime and well worth a move.

Despite the Tigers' poor season, former player MacDonald still impressed after his move from Oakwell becoming an instant member of the first team.

Creativity was a real issue at the Madjeski last season and, although Modou Barrow whipped in a gorgeous cross for Jon Dadi Bodvarsson's goal on Friday night, they need somebody who can do that more consistently.

Peterborough United's Marcus Maddison is the man who can do that.

Despite seeming destined for a move away since January, no club is yet to agree a deal for the man who racked up 18 League One assists last season, forming a deadly partnership with Jack Marriott.

He is the sort of player who Marc McNulty and Sam Baldock would have a field day playing with and could prove the difference between a successful season and a poor one.
