Derby County have confirmed via their official website that midfielder Kasey Palmer has joined the club on a loan deal from Chelsea until the end of the season.

The 21-year-old was instrumental at Huddersfield Town last season as the Terriers secured a shock playoff final win to earn promotion to the Premier League, with his form convincing manager David Wagner to extend his loan into a second season.

However Palmer failed to make an impact in the Premier League following a raft of signings at The John Smith’s Stadium, with his loan being terminated earlier in the month.

Derby boss Gary Rowett made his move with the player a long way down the pecking order at Stamford Bridge, and will hope the England U21 international can repeat his heroics of last semester and fire the Rams into the top flight.

The East Midlands outfit lie in second place, just a point above third place Aston Villa, and a solid run of form should see them earn promotion this season.
