Rochdale’s Scott Hogan, Chesterfield’s Gary Roberts and Scunthorpe United’s Sam Winnall are on the three-man shortlist for the Sky Bet League Two Player of the Year award, as revealed by the Football League earlier this week.

The winner will be unveiled as part of The Football League Awards 2014 ceremony, which takes place on Sunday 16th March (this Sunday) at The Brewery in London, to celebrate achievements both on and off the pitch up and down the 72 clubs within the Football League.

Each manager in the division was asked to vote for their top five players from this current campaign, before the Football League collected the results and produced a three-man shortlist.

The three man shortlist is:

SCOTT HOGAN (Rochdale)

Scott Hogan (Rochdale)

Scott Hogan was playing non-league football this time last year, before the opportunity to re-join Rochdale came about in the summer of 2013. Despite not making an appearance in his first spell, Hogan immediately made a significant impact on the pitch this time round, netting on his debut in the win over Hartlepool at Spotland. He has not looked back since, as has netted 17 League goals to help propel Keith Hill’s side into the automatic promotion places in League Two.

GARY ROBERTS (Chesterfield)

Gary Roberts (Chesterfield)

Gary Roberts’ 11 League assists is more than any other player in League Two, and the winger has been hugely influential in helping his side Chesterfield reach the summit of the table. The 29-year old signed from Swindon Town in the summer, and is the club’s joint top scorer with eight League goals. Combine that with his impressive assists tally, and Paul Cook has one of the best attacking players in the division.

SAM WINNALL (Scunthorpe United)

Sam Winnall (Scunthorpe United)

Scunthorpe United striker Sam Winnall is enjoying his best season in English football at Glanford Park. The 23 year-old, having spent the last few years on loan up and down the country, leads the goal-scoring charts in League Two. He has found the back of the net on 19 occasions so far this season, and has helped inspire a Scunthorpe side who were relegated from League One last season with a fantastic chance to bounce straight back up at the first time of asking.
