With the fixtures released later in the week, the period between one season ending and another beginning is almost over.

Once clubs know who they're playing and when the previous campaign can be well and truly consigned to history. With that in mind, lots of clubs are working hard to secure new signings and fresh direction.

We round up the very latest transfers and rumours from across League One.

Josh Vela

Bolton Wanderers have received a boost from an unlikely source this week. Josh Vela, widely believed to be on the verge of a move to Hull City, is now looking likely not to make the switch.

Nigel Adkins departure has cast a question mark over the midfielder's exit, as reported by Hull Live.

Whilst it doesn't mean he's staying put, it might give Bolton hope of keeping a player who could be a key figure in League One.

John Marquis

Marquis will be the subject of a bid by Sunderland if their takeover goes through, as reported by the Northern Echo.

The 22-goal forward was coveted by the Black Cats in the summer, but Grant McCann blocked the move and instead Sunderland signed Will Grigg.

It's now possible the striker could make the move, with Mark Campbell's takeover of Sunderland nearing completion.

Tom Lockyer

Charlton Athletic are the latest side to express an interest in Bristol Rovers defender Tom Lockyer, as reported by London News Online.

The homegrown 24-year-old is out of contract this month and looks likely to leave the Gas.

He's been monitored by a number of sides, but Championship new boys Charlton are the latest to show a solid interest.

Will Vaulks

Rotherham are bracing themselves for a Cardiff City bid for Will Vaulks, as reported by the Daily Mail.

It's reported a deal could be done in the next 24 hours, with a fee of £1.5m thought to have already been agreed.

The 25-year-old Welsh international has played 137 times for the Millers, netting 18 times in the process.
