Oldham Athletic are set to sign Rob Hunt on a permanent deal after he impressed during a loan spell last season, according to HITC Sport.

Brighton and Hove Albion are set to let Rob Hunt leave the club on a permanent basis following their promotion to the Premier League.

The young right-back joined Oldham Athletic in the January transfer on a half-season loan deal.

He played 10 games for the Latics, helping them steer clear of the relegation zone and preserve their status as a League One club.

Oldham manager John Sheridan was a big fan of Rob Hunt during his time at Boundary Park and has been pursuing a permanent deal.

A number of other clubs have also expressed an interest in the 21-year-old, who can also play at left-back.

However, it appears that Oldham Athletic have won the race to sign the talented young defender.

Rob Hunt has only managed three senior appearances for Brighton and Hove Albion, with just the one league outing.

With Bruno Saltor still ahead of him in the pecking order and Brighton actively looking for a younger right-back to be the Spaniard's long-term successor, the future of Rob Hunt at the AMEX looks increasingly bleak.

Rob Hunt is therefore willing to drop down two divisions and return to Oldham Athletic to kick start his career with regular playing time in League One.
