Sunderland picked up an incredibly crucial 4-2 win over promotion rivals Barnsley on Tuesday night.

Second met third as the Black Cats prepared for their biggest game of the season, with the Tykes sitting just two points below Jack Ross' men just outside of the automatic promotion places.

But the Wearside club secured an emphatic win to cement their 2nd placed position, thanks to goals from Aiden McGeady, Lynden Gooch, Luke O'Nien and Josh Maja.

The latter is now on 12 goals for the season, and is bound to attract interest in January from higher clubs with his contract expiring at the end of the current campaign.

Bristol City, as well as Premier League duo Manchester City and Tottenham Hotspur are also reportedly interested in signing the 19-year old, so it's about time the Black Cats start drawing up a Plan B.

With that being said, Sunderland should definitely be plotting a move to sign Tranmere Rovers star James Norwood - the 28-year old scored his 16th goal of the season in his side's 5-2 defeat to Grimsby Town on Tuesday night.

Norwood has been in scintillating form for Tranmere this season, in what his first proper season in the Football League barring a short-term spell at Exeter City back in 2009.

The forward is currently League Two's top goalscorer with 14 goals in the league - taking his tally up to 16 goals in 21 games in all competitions this term.

He may be 9 years older than Maja, but Norwood certainly knows where the goal is, and deserves a chance to shine in a league above in his prime years.
