Barnsley forward Mallik Wilks has joined Hull City on a loan deal that includes an option to buy, which has drawn a mixed reaction from Tykes fans.

Wilks joined Barnsley from Leeds United in the summer and signed a four-year contract at Oakwell.

The 21-year-old featured regularly in the early part of the season but appears to have fallen out of favour since the arrival of new manager Gerhard Struber, not playing since early November.

It appears his time at Barnsley may be over, as it has been announced that Wilks has joined Hull on loan until the end of the season, with an option to make the deal permanent in the summer.

Wilks has not been at his best this season and the Tykes will likely be disappointed he was unable to recapture the sensation form he showed at Doncaster Rovers last term.

The forward scored 16 goals and provided 12 assists in the 2018/19 campaign, helping Rovers to qualify for the League One play-offs.

It seems Wilks was not a player that Struber felt was part of his plans, given his lack of recent involvement, so this is very much a move that makes sense.
