A new era at Blackpool is underway with Michael Appleton replacing Neil Critchley as manager.

The Tangerines have had a great few years with them returning to the Sky Bet Championship and playing some nice stuff under Critchley, but the pull of becoming part of Steven Gerrard's coaching staff at Aston Villa evidently proved too great for him.

Indeed, it means Pool have turned to Appleton to try and keep the good work going, and fans will be hopeful that that can happen, though he obviously has to prove himself to them.

In terms of their squad, there are some really talented footballers available to him and picking a strongest XI as things stand is difficult.

We've had a poke at it anyway:

There are a handful of positions which were a bit of a coin flip in terms of which player to pick.

In goal, both Daniel Grimshaw and Chris Maxwell are fine options, but we've gone just with Grimshaw.

In defence, we've opted for the experience of James Husband alongside Jordan Thorniley, who had a good season last year after starting well on loan at Oxford, Marvin Ekpiteta and Jordan Gabriel.

In midfield, Keshi Anderson and Josh Bowler are great options out wide, with Pool obviously hoping they can keep hold of Bowler this summer, whilst Callum Connolly looked a good signing in midfield last year alongside Kenny Dougall.

Shayne Lavery was another fine arrival and he gets the nod up front alongside Jerry Yates.
