Wayne Rooney has posted an update on social media that is sure to excite Derby County fans, as the anticipation ahead of his Rams debut continues to build.
The 34-year-old was introduced to Derby fans at Pride Park at the weekend and appeared in the dugout as a coach as the Rams were held to a 1-1 draw by Queens Park Rangers in the Championship.
The former England and Manchester United captain joined Derby as a player-coach on an 18-month deal back in August – although he can’t play for the club until next month.
Rooney has been stepping up training ahead of his return to the pitch and his latest update on social media is sure to excite Derby fans. The forward took to Instagram earlier today and posted a few photos of himself training with his teammates.
Rooney ‘s debut for the Rams is expected to be the Championship clash with Barnsley at Pride Park on January 2 and many Derby fans feel that his introduction to the team can’t come soon enough.
Derby reached the play-off final under Frank Lampard last season, but have made an inconsistent start to the current new campaign under Phillip Cocu. The Rams’ draw with QPR at the weekend has left them 14th in the league table, six points outside the play-offs.

The anticipation amongst Derby fans ahead of Rooney’s debut for the club has been building for months now and this latest update from the forward is sure to excite Rams fans.
I’m sure quite a few Derby fans will hope that Rooney’s introduction to the team as a player can give the rest of the squad a huge lift going into the second half of the season, as they’ve been pretty inconsistent so far this far this season.
The Derby players will be able to learn a lot from training alongside him and it’ll be very interesting to see if Rooney can make an instant impact for Derby on the pitch when he finally makes his debut for the team in the New Year.
