Latest updates on Derby County’s Florian Jozefzoon: How is he getting on away on loan?

Published

on

The future of Florian Jozefzoon at Derby County certainly looks bleak heading into the summer, with the winger out-of-contract at the end of the 2020/21 season.

The Dutchman signed for the Rams back in 2018 from Brentford, but has struggled to find consistent minutes in recent months, which saw the club loan him out to fellow Championship side Rotherham United in October 2020.

Jozefzoon made his debut for Paul Warne’s side against Norwich City, and has since gone on to make 16 appearances in total for the Millers, who are currently sat 22nd in the Championship table.

Rotherham are just five points adrift of Derby in the second-tier standings, and the Rams will be hoping that their decision to loan Jozefzoon to the Yorkshire-based side doesn’t backfire, with both teams battling it out to retain their status as a Championship club beyond this year’s campaign.

Did these former Derby County players leave for a higher or lower fee than what they arrived for?

Derby already have a number of options available to them in a similar position to Jozefzoon, and it’s hard to imagine that the winger has much of a future in Wayne Rooney’s team when his loan deal with Rotherham is set to expire.

Despite being a regular in the Rotherham team in the early stages of his time with the club, the midfielder has found game time hard to come by in recent weeks, with Jozefzoon featuring in just four of their last 12 league matches, which doesn’t make for the best of reading.

Three of those outings have come from the substitutes bench, with the other appearance coming against Barnsley, where he was substituted at half-time at the New York Stadium.

Derbyshire Live have revealed that Jozefzoon won’t be offered a new contract with Derby County, so he’ll be hoping that he can make a good impression with Rotherham United for the remainder of this year’s campaign, as he looks to perform to a high standard, with other clubs potentially keeping tabs on him heading into the summer.

Jozefzoon came on as an 84th minute substitute against Norwich City, where the Millers fell to a 1-0 defeat to the Championship league-leaders.

Rotherham are set to return to action in midweek, when they take on relegation-threatened Nottingham Forest, in what is an important match in the battle to survive in the second-tier this term.
