Sky Sports have wheeled out their supercomputer to make a prediction about how the Championship table will end up looking at the end of the season and it makes grim reading for Sunderland fans.

The predictor takes into account various factors such as current form, remaining fixtures and a team's performance in previous seasons.

With all that in mind, the numbers show that Chris Coleman's side have a 54 per cent chance of getting relegated, which is the second worst in the league.

Only Birmingham City came out more likely to go down to League One which indicates the scale of the task facing Coleman and his players in the second half of the season.

The predictor believes Burton Albion will join the pair in the bottom three come the end of the season, with Wolves winning the league.

Derby County are set to join them, with Bristol City, Cardiff City, Aston Villa and Leeds United taking the play-off spots, according to the numbers.

The Verdict

The numbers serve to illustrate the scale of the task facing Sunderland but does not mean that they are doomed by any means.

I think they might just sneak out of trouble if they can bring in a few new faces in the January window but it will go right down to the wire.
