Birmingham City's only new signing of the summer is still ineligible to play for the club has he has not received clearance from the Football League, according to the Mirror.

Kristian Pedersen joined the club for around £2million this summer but is yet to be registered by the EFL despite gaining international clearance.

However, the Blues were hit with a transfer embargo after failing to comply with Financial Fair Play regulations.

Therefore, they now face a race against time to fulfil the promise made to Pedersen on his arrival from Union Berlin that the embargo would be lifted before the club's opening day fixture against Norwich City.

The Birmingham owners, Xuandong Ren, assured Garry Monk that the embargo would not be a problem when he became manager in March.

"I’ve been assured since I came to the club that it won’t be a problem for us," he told the Mirror.

Of course, ideally you would like to bring players in."

We’ve still got a lot of time. Like I said, we’ve been assured that issue will be taken care of and we’ve still got time to bring in the players that we want."

The verdict

Just when Birmingham fans thought this summer could not get any worse for them, they find out that their club might not be able to play a left-back they have signed for £2million.

The club have no one to blame but themselves and I have little sympathy for Garry Monk as well who should have been able to see what would happen when he took over a club with a looming embargo.

It will be a tricky season for them, but now Monk's priority should be finding the best team possible with the players he has at his disposal.
