Swansea City are looking to rebuild somewhat over the summer after an inconsistent campaign in the Championship this term.

Deapite showing flashes of brilliance at times under manager Graham Potter, the Swans ultimately fell well short of their goal of promotion, and Potter will be hoping to add some new faces next season after today announcing his retained list.

It is quite the list too, which includes some high earners and players who have gone for big fees over the course of their career such as Wilfried Bony, Leroy Fer, and Wayne Routledge.

All of those players will have clubs chomping at the bit to sign them, and here at FLW, we think midfielder Leroy Fer could well be the ideal signing for Sheffield United as they head into the Premier League under Chris Wilder.

With Wilder choosing to release Paul Coutts, the Blades have a vacancy in the middle of the park, and with the transfer budget bound to be one which is carefully managed, they could do a lot worse than bringing in someone of the quality Fer possesses.

Not always a spectacular player, Fer has bags of experience in the top flight as well as internationally, and he is someone who could come into the Blades' squad and add something which is missing at Bramall Lane at the moment.

In Oliver Norwood and John Fleck, the Blades do have two excellent central midfield players, but more will be needed across the course of a tough Premier League campaign, meaning Fer fits the bill perfectly.

The Dutchman is likely to want to stay in England too, and he'd no doubt be well up for the challenge of helping Wilder's men maintain their top flight status.

While Wilder has built his success on a well drilled and tight knit unit, Fer is exactly the sort of player who would have no trouble slotting into that set-up, all the while bringing his experience, quality and battling qualities to Bramall Lane.

His time with Swansea has not been perfect by any means, but there is a top player in there with Fer, and Wilder might just be the sort of manager to bring the best out of the 29-year-old.
