Sheffield United manager Chris Wilder will be looking to strengthen his squad this summer, as he looks to build a team that can compete in the Premier League next season.

Kieran Dowell was one of the stand-out players for the Blades in the Championship during the second half of this season, after joining on loan from Everton in the January transfer window.

The 21-year-old made 16 appearances for Sheffield United in the Championship, scoring two goals and played an important role in helping the team secure automatic promotion to the Premier League.

The Daily Mail reported last week that the Blades are keen to re-sign Dowell next season and this would make perfect sense for both the player and the club.

Sheffield United will be competing on a relatively limited budget next season, especially in comparison with some of their Premier League rivals, so re-signing Dowell on loan would be a very smart move.

They would be getting a player with a lot of potential and somebody who already knows the club well and what Wilder demands. He would not need any time to settle in and would be able to make an impact straight away.

Dowell is a versatile player, having filled in at left wing-back for the Blades this season and can operate in the number ten role behind the two strikers.

He produced a man-of-the-match performance against promotion rivals West Brom earlier in the season, proving that he can cope with the pressure of playing in the big games and this will be very important ahead of next season in the Premier League.

A move to Bramall Lane would also make sense for Dowell, who will be looking to experience as much first-team football as possible, at an important stage of his career.

The midfielder is unlikely to get a proper chance in the first-team at Everton at the moment, having made just two Premier League appearances for the Toffees so far in his career and none under current manager Marco Silva.

It would give him a chance to experience playing at the highest level, which will allow him to reach his full potential and will boost his chances of making it an Everton in the future.
