Aston Villa are well in the hunt for promotion in the Sky Bet Championship, with Steve Bruce’s side sitting well placed in the division’s play-off zone heading into the Christmas period.

The form of Bruce’s side is particularly impressive when you consider the absence of Jonathan Kodjia, who last year, almost singlehandedly dragged Villa away from a potential relegation battle.

Credit has to go to Keinan Davis, the 19-year-old striker who has led the line superbly since August, helping Villa maintain their excellent run of form, even in the absence of Kodjia.

Aston Villa’s official Twitter account (@AVFCOfficial) has looked at some of the numbers behind Davis’ incredible start to life in senior football at Villa Park.

Davis has played 1,270 minutes of Championship football this season, an incredible number for a teenager who is still finding his way in the game.

Villa have revealed only one player has played more football for the club as a teenager, which was James Milner during the 2005/06 campaign, when the former England international featured in 1,361 minutes of Premier League football.

Davis is just 21 games into a 46 game season, and with plenty of football left to play, the striker should surpass Milner’s record at Villa Park.

The Verdict

This stat really does highlight the importance of Davis at Villa Park, with the young striker now a key member of Bruce’s first-team squad.

Davis has played a lot of football, and has been important this season, particularly due to the injuries the likes of Scott Hogan and Kodjia have suffered over different stages of the season.

Bruce will hope to see Davis add more goals to his game, but it is hard to argue with his contribution so far, with the striker set to surpass Milner’s long-standing record.
