Josh Onomah is a man under pressure at Villa Park, with the midfielder’s performances coming under the microscope, particularly in the absence of Albert Adomah and Jack Grealish.

Last night’s 1-1 draw with Preston North End in the Sky Bet Championship saw Villa fail to move back into the automatic promotion places, with Onomah receiving plenty of criticism for his contribution at Villa Park.

The 20-year-old, on-loan with Villa from Tottenham Hotspur, was drafted into the starting XI due to injuries to Adomah and Grealish, but failed to make a positive impression at Villa Park.

A Villa fan account, @7500toHolte, have moved to share some of the midfielder’s stats from last night, questioning whether the criticism of Onomah was entirely fair, claiming that there was more than meets the eye with the youngster.

Onomah made six tackles for Villa and attempted five dribbles during his outing against Preston, as well as creating two chances for his teammates.

After earning a recall to the starting XI in the absence of Adomah and Grealish, Onomah could be set for an extended run, with Steve Bruce admitting it was unlikely that the duo would be ready to return for Saturday’s clash with Sheffield Wednesday.

The Verdict

Onomah has talent, however, it is too easy to forget who he is replacing in the starting XI, with Adomah and Grealish two of Bruce’s key men.

Comparisons will be made between Onomah and the duo, which is perhaps why the on-loan Tottenham man has been the subject of heavy criticism.
