A tweet from popular bookmaker, Sky Bet, has revealed just how good Sheffield United have been in recent Yorkshire derbies.

The Blades are undefeated in their last 16 Yorkshire derbies, winning 11 of those contests and drawing on five occasions.

That record has been significantly boosted this season, as Chris Wilder’s side enjoy a magnificent start to their Sky Bet Championship return, with the Blades heading into this weekend’s international break in the automatic promotion places and well placed for a promotion push.

Wilder’s side have won three Yorkshire derbies already this season, picking up three points against Barnsley in August thanks to a Billy Sharp goal, before extending their record in Yorkshire derbies against Sheffield Wednesday and Leeds United recently.

The Blades picked up three points against Sheffield Wednesday is September’s Steel City derby, with Wilder masterminding a 4-2 victory over the Owls. A month later, Sheffield United were back piling the misery on more of their Yorkshire rivals, beating Leeds United 2-1 at Elland Road, with 20-year-old sensation, David Brooks, scoring his first goal in red and white that evening.

The Verdict

Sheffield United’s record in Yorkshire derbies speaks for itself, and the way that Wilder’s side have performed in them this season is one of the many reasons they find themselves in promotion contention.

The Blades are able to handle the pressure of the big occasion, which is a good indication that they could be challenging for a Premier League return later in the season.
