@TheNinetyTwo_ have revealed who in the Sky Bet Championship has the best pass success rate, with Sheffield Wednesday’s, Jacob Butterfield, currently topping the list.

Butterfield is currently on-loan at Hillsborough from Derby County, and has completed 91.2% of his passes, which leaves him ahead of the likes of Adam Clayton and Harrison Reed, who are his nearest competitors.

Despite the midfielder’s high numbers, Carlos Carvalhal has often been reluctant to use Butterfield this season, with the 27-year-old starting just three Championship fixtures for the Owls and featuring on just nine occasions for the Owls.

The Owls have struggled for consistency in the Championship this season, but headed into the international break on the back of back-to-back victories against Millwall and Aston Villa, which moved the Owls into the top-half of the table.

Butterfield started both the clash with Millwall at Hillsborough and the trip to Villa Park last weekend, playing a crucial role as the Owls picked up six points to lift the growing pressure on Carvalhal.

Wednesday face Bristol City at Hillsborough when the Championship returns next weekend, before facing back-to-back away trips to Ipswich Town and Reading to finish November.

The Verdict

Whilst Butterfield’s stats might only be seen as high due to his lack of real first-team opportunities this season, his pass success rate is still impressive and an indication that Carvalhal needs to be putting more faith in the on-loan Derby man.

It is no coincidence that since Butterfield has returned to the starting XI, Wednesday’s results have picked up, and the two victories prior to the international break, have realistically saved Carvalhal his job at Hillsborough.
