Two of the Sky Bet Championship’s out of form side meet this weekend at St Andrew’s, when Birmingham City entertain Queens Park Rangers.

Both Birmingham and QPR enter the contest following back-to-back defeats, with Birmingham going down against Wolverhampton Wanderers and Fulham, whilst QPR have suffered defeats against Preston North End and Leeds United.

Steve Cotterill’s Birmingham currently occupy a place in the bottom-three, but are just five points behind QPR, who after a six-match winless run, are on a slippery slope towards the relegation zone.

It is not just QPR’s recent form in the Championship that will worry Ian Holloway, the experienced boss will be concerned by his side’s failure to address their ongoing problems away from Loftus Road, where they have not picked up three points since February.

As revealed by Championship stat guru, Goodbrand Stats (@StatsChristian), QPR’s last victory away from Loftus Road came back on February 18th, when the Rs coincidently beat this weekend’s opponents, Birmingham.

That victory came 17 away fixtures ago, thanks to goals from Matt Smith, Conor Washington, Idrissa Sylla and Yeni Ngbakoto, who helped Holloway’s side to an impressive 4-1 victory over the Blues.

The Verdict

QPR’s away form has been remarkable, with Holloway’s side really struggling away from Loftus Road over the course of 2017.

Whether it is a bad omen for Birmingham that QPR’s last away victory came at St Andrew’s remains to be seen, but there is no doubting the size of this weekend’s fixture.

Birmingham need a victory to boost their survival hopes, whilst QPR are in danger of being pulled into a relegation scrap if they lose.
