Aston Villa will have to pay £6million in compensation to Celtic if they want to appoint Brendan Rodgers as their new manager, report Football Insider

Rodgers is one of the favourites to get the vacant position but faces competition from Rui Faria and ex-Villa captain John Terry.

The former Liverpool and Swansea City manager is under contract at Celtic Park until 2021 and the report states Villa will have to pay the hefty fee to land the Northern Irishman.

During his time in Glasgow, Rodgers has brought incredible success to the club, securing back-to-back trebles, meaning he has won every domestic trophy on offer in his time there.

Villa are on the look-out of a new manager after Steve Bruce was sacked following a 3-3 draw with bottom of the league Preston North End last Tuesday.

Youth team manager Kevin MacDonald took charge of the club's trip to Millwall on Saturday, but the 2-1 defeat left them languishing in 15th place.

Last season, Bruce took Villa all the way to the playoff final last season but was beaten by Fulham at Wembley.

The Verdict

Rodgers would be a decent appointment for Villa, even if it might not be too popular with their fans.

The board will just have to decide whether it is worth shelling out the £6million needed to release him from his current contract.

Either way, they have to make the big decision in the coming days and need to get an appointment finalised as soon as possible.
