Aston Villa fans have recently been given a huge injury boost, after an update from injured midfielder Birkir Bjarnason on social media.

The Iceland international has missed Villa's previous six league games, after sustaining a groin injury in their 1-0 away loss to Queens Park Rangers in October.

However, the 30-year old has recently posted an update on his Instagram story, captioned "Boots on", as he looks to make a return to first-team action after a short spell on the sidelines.

It remains to be seen whether Bjarnason will feature in Villa's clash with Stoke City this weekend, however the midfielder looks unlikely to play along with playmaker Jack Grealish and left-back Neil Taylor, who are also doubtful.

Villa are a revitalised unit under Dean Smith - the Villans sit 8th in the Sky Bet Championship table after five of their last nine games - the West Midlands outfit are also unbeaten in their last six games.

The Verdict

This is great news for Villa.

They have coped well without Bjarnason, however the Icelandic midfielder is still a very key player to have available, and he has been impressive under Smith.

With a hectic Christmas period approaching, Villa need as many players available to them as possible.
