Nottingham Forest midfielder Diogo Goncalves scored a stunning solo goal to give Portugal Under 21's all three points against Bosnia & Herzegovina.

Goncalves took the ball past six Bosnia & Herzegovina players before finishing clinically in the bottom corner.

You can see footage of the goal below:

But the 4-2 win for Goncalves and his Portugal team mates wasn't enough to secure automatic qualification to Euro 2019, with Romania Under 21's finishing their qualification campaign unbeaten at the top of the table.

The 22-year-old is currently on loan at the Forest but has only made two appearances in a disappointing loan spell at the Reds so far this season.

But with his impressive showing for his national side, could Aitor Karanka be tempted to experiment with his squad and give the Portuguese youngster a chance in the first team at the City Ground?

Goncalves made seven first-team appearances for Portuguese giants Benfica last season, but failed to score in any of those matches.

The youngster faces stiff competition to force his way into Aitor Karanka's side with the likes of Joe Lolley in excellent form for Forest this season.

But with the busy festive period coming up in Decemeber, Goncalves could be given his chance in the side, and he will have to take the opportunity at the first time of asking, with opportunities limited this season in the Forest side.

The Verdict:

That goal scored by Goncalves shows that he has the ability to be a top young player, but with a lack of game time at Nottingham Forest, he will struggle to see that exciting potential.

I can see the youngster getting a run of games to impress over the Christmas period but it is vital that he makes the most of his run of games, as I'm sure many Nottingham Forest fans would like to see Goncalves extend his stay at the City Ground, should he impress this season.
