Robert Snodgrass will not be allowed to leave West Ham today, ruling out a return to Aston Villa, according to the Daily Mail's live blog, (09/08 9.34am)

Snodgrass had been linked with a return to Villa Park after an impressive season in which he scored seven times in 40 Championship games. He played in all three of the play-off matches, taking his appearance tally to 43.

However, he is unlikely to leave West Ham now as they're not keen on letting him go. Steve Bruce is reported as still willing to test their resolve, but they’d have to pay significantly more than the 60 per cent of his wages they paid last season.

The 30-year old Scot joined West Ham from Hull City for £10.2m in January 2017, but made just 15 Premier League outings for the Hammers, without scoring a goal.

He's also featured for Norwich and Leeds since breaking through at Livingston in 2004. He's represented his country 25 caps times, scoring seven goals in the process.

The Verdict

There's legs in this one, that is for sure. Despite West Ham's reticence to let the player leave, there's always a deal to be had if the price is right.

Steve Bruce knows all about Snodgrass and what he is capable of, if he thinks there's value to be had then he'll pursue a deal whether the Hammers like it or not. Expect more through the day.
