Sheffield United's pursuit of goalkeeper Dean Henderson is set to hit another snag as the Blades continue to push for a summer deal for the young stopper.

Henderson was the Golden Glove winner in the Championship last season as he helped guide the Blades into the Premier League, and Sheffield United manager Chris Wilder is desperate to see the youngster return to Bramall Lane this summer.

However, according to respected journalist Alan Nixon, the Blades could be forced to wait until Henderson signs a new deal with Manchester United before sealing any loan agreement.

Henderson has a contract at Old Trafford which runs until 2020, a deal he only signed last summer before moving to Sheffield and playing an integral part in the club's promotion campaign.

The 22-year-old has become a firm fan favourite among the loyal Sheffield United fans and he made his feelings clear at the end of the season that he wished to remain at Bramall Lane if at all possible.

Henderson kept 20 clean sheets for the Blades as he dislodged Simon Moore and claimed the number one spot in the United goal throughout the campaign. His only high profile blunder throughout the season came against Leeds at home, while he had a sticky second half spell at Villa Park as the Blades drew 3-3.

The Verdict

The longer this goes on then the more worried i'd be for Sheffield United.

Chris Wilder won't want to wait around and then be let down at the last minute, and he'll no doubt be looking for assurances from both Henderson and Man United if he is to play the waiting game.

However, the waiting game might be worth it, with Henderson a superb young 'keeper who could make all the difference next season for the Blades.
