Marcelo Bielsa's brother Rafael has revealed that Leeds United have an option to keep hold of the Argentine's services beyond this season, regardless of whether they win promotion to the Premier League or not.

The experienced coach has been nothing short of a revelation since arriving at Elland Road in the summer, with his unique personality and refreshing brand of football installing new life into the Yorkshire club.

There has been talk claiming that Leeds may lose Bielsa should they fail to win promotion to the top-flight this term, with the likes of AS Roma reportedly interested in hiring him.

But speaking to Argentinean media outlet lacapital.com, Bielsa's brother Rafael has revealed that the Yorkshire club have the option to keep hold of the 63-year beyond this season, regardless of whether they win promotion or not.

He said: "Marcelo can not go back to Newell’s because he has a contractual problem. I made the contract."

"If they do not go up to the Premier League, Leeds has the option to keep him. Taking into account the season they are having, it is difficult not to keep him. And if they go up, it is mandatory for both parties to stay."

The promotion pendulum has swung back in Leeds' favour again after a magnificent weekend for all concerned with the club.

After a 1-0 win over Sheffield Wednesday and Sheffield United dropping points at home to Millwall, Bielsa's men now sit three points clear of 3rd place, with just four games left to play this term.

The Verdict

This is a huge, huge boost for Leeds, as they will undoubtedly be desperate to keep hold of Bielsa even if they don't go up this season.

He has been a fantastic appointment for Leeds, and it would be a massive statement of intent if they kept him in the Championship.

If Leeds do go up, I would be so eager to see how his side perform in the top-flight.
