Cardiff City will be looking to make it consecutive away victories in the space of four days when they travel to Rotherham United tonight.

Mick McCarthy collected his first three points as Bluebirds boss last weekend, but they'll need plenty more victories if they're to play themselves back into genuine top-six contention.

Victory in South Yorkshire will move McCarthy's team eight points behind the play-off places as they look to rebuild following the departure of former boss Neil Harris back in January.

But what's the latest team news ahead of the Welsh outfit's trip to the New York Stadium later this evening?

Wales Online are reporting that goalkeeper Alex Smithies is expected to return having come off in the 11th-minute in Saturday's victory at Bristol City.

Summer signing Dillon Phillips replaced the former QPR shotshopper and marked his first league outing for the Bluebirds by keeping a clean sheet at Ashton Gate.

However, it appears that Smithies is in contention to make a swift return against Rotherham.

Meanwhile, McCarthy revealed that January addition Jonny Williams is doubtful following an injury picked up last Friday before the trip to Bristol City.

"Typical Jonny. He gets clattered in training. It was a bang on the back of his knee. I don't think it'll be long," McCarthy admitted. "Maybe next week."

Meanwhile, Wales Online confirmed that Jordi Osei-Tutu and Lee Tomlin remain sidelined with hamstring and groin injuries respectively, whilst attacker Isaac Vassell hasn't featured for more than 18 months and is still a long-term absentee.

The likes of Junior Hoilett and Josh Murphy will be hoping to earn recalls to the starting XI, but McCarthy is likely to name the same side that started against the Robins.
