New Aston Villa signing Tom Carroll has spoken to the Express and Star and revealed that Villa striker Tammy Abraham played a big part in convincing him to move to the Midlands.

The former Spurs midfielder, who has joined Villa on a loan deal from Swansea City, knows Abraham from their time in the England under-21 set up together, and revealed that the Chelsea loanee was one of the key factors behind him making the move to join Dean Smith's men.

“I know Tammy. I spoke to him about the club and he said good things." Carroll said.

“It’s a massive club. I am just looking forward to getting going, playing games and hopefully getting the club back where it belongs.”

The last minute signing from Villa added further depth to the midfield area at Villa Park, and Carroll will no doubt be hoping to have a big impact with the club and help guide them into the play-off spots, with the Villans just sitting outside the promotion hunt at the moment.

Carroll also revealed that he had known about interest from Villa for some time, but admitted the move 'went under the radar' somewhat before he sealed a move on deadline day.

Both Carroll and Abraham have had spells with Swansea and will be hoping they can come together to help guide the club back towards the Premier League.

The Verdict

It's a big move this for Carroll, who at 26, needs to start really imposing himself on games if he is to fulfil his potential.

Carroll clearly has talent in the locker, and a move to a big club like Villa might bring the best out of him.

It will certainly be interesting to watch how he gets on and if Villa look to make his move permanent come the summer.
