Many Stoke City fans have taken to Twitter to react to the news that James McClean is set to be out of action for several weeks due to a knee injury.

As confirmed by the club's official website, the winger suffered ligament damage during the club's clash with Preston North End on Wednesday.

McClean was substituted in the second-half of this particular fixture by Stoke manager Michael O'Neill who now has a conundrum on his hands in terms of who to select for tomorrow's showdown with Queens Park Rangers.

Given that Thibaud Verlinden has been ruled out for the rest of the season with a knee injury, Stoke may have to play Sam Clucas on the left wing.

Although the 29-year-old has featured predominately as a central-midfielder for Stoke, he does have previous experience of lining up in this aforementioned position and thus could fit the bill.

When you consider that McClean has provided 11 direct goal contributions in the Championship during the current campaign, it will be intriguing to see how Stoke cope in his absence.

Currently 21st in the second-tier standings, the Potters could move seven points clear of the relegation zone by beating QPR at the Kiyan Prince Foundation Stadium on Saturday.
