Leeds United loanee Pierre-Michel Lasogga was back on the scoresheet at the weekend, as the Whites fell to a 2-1 defeat at Sheffield United.

The German had appeared periodically in the side under former boss Thomas Christiansen, but with Paul Heckingbottom now at the helm, the player will hope for a run in the first-team between now and the end of the season.

Lasogga is set to return to parent club Hamburg in the summer, but has left the door open to a permanent switch to Elland Road in an interview with Leeds Live (14:01) ahead of Sunday’s clash with Bristol City.

“I’m very happy that the fans are behind me like this,” he said.

“The decision is not now in my head, so after the season I will sit with my family.

“I have a year left on my contract with Hamburg, so I need to speak to them and then we will see what happens.”

The Verdict

Lasogga has the potential to become a real star at Elland Road, and will perhaps begin to prove this under Paul Heckingbottom.

A goal in the manager’s first game is an excellent start, and the German is likely to get the nod once again when Lee Johnson’s Robins come to town in what has evolved into a must-win game for the Whites.

If the player continues to find the back of the net, then the new boss will surely consider launching a bid to bring the player to West Yorkshire on a permanent deal in the summer.
