In one of the more surprising rumours ahead of the January transfer window, Arsenal's Laurent Koscielny has been linked with a move to Aston Villa as they aim to return to the Premier League.

The former Arsenal skipper has made 324 appearances in total for the Gunners over an eight-year-spell, that has made him a firm favourite with the Arsenal fans.

But after an injury lay-off, the Frenchman has seemingly fallen down the pecking with Unai Emery preferring to play the likes of Rob Holding and Shkodran Mustafi ahead of the ageing centre-back.

Koscielny has won the FA Cup and Community Shield on two occasions during his time at the Emirates Stadium, but he could be heading for the exit door in the near future.

News Aston Villa's interest in him will come as a surprise with many feeling that the Arsenal defender should be playing at a higher level than the Championship.

We put the question to Villa supporters on Twitter: 'You have been linked with a move for Arsenal defender Laurent Koscielny, would you be happy if you signed him?

The Verdict:

The experienced centre-back would be an excellent addition to Dean Smith's side and with over 70% of fans agreeing, it seems the majority agree that he would be an impressive signing.

For the 30% that feel as though he wouldn't be a good signing for the club, they might be concerned about Koscielny's high wage demands, or the fact that they may feel as though his best days in football are already behind him.

I feel as though the Frenchman would add much-needed experience to the Villa defence and should be signed by Dean Smith's side in January when the transfer window opens.
