Despite a slow start to the new season, Derby County’s form has picked up, giving them a solid start to the new campaign.

Frank Lampard’s men won their opening game of the season against Reading before back-to-back defeats stalled their start to the year.

But since the defeat to Millwall on match-day three, the Rams have made it three wins on the spin.

Defeating each of Ipswich Town, Preston Northern and Hull City, Derby sit fourth on 12 points, just two off league leaders Leeds.

From what looked like it was going to be a tough start for the Pride Park side, now turns out to have been a decent one.

The international break comes at the wrong time for Lampard who would have been hoping for a game on Tuesday to carry on the momentum.

There has been a lot learnt and a fair bit that still needs to be figured out by the inexperienced Derby boss once the league starts up again in two weeks’ time.

With that said, here are three things Lampard will have learned about his Rams side so far this season.

Despite only fielding the same XI once this season, the core of the side Frank Lampard wants is in place after three successive wins in the league.

It took a few weeks to get going, but it has seemingly clicked now heading into what is now going to be an unwanted international break.

A couple of changes in forward areas between the Preston and Hull victories, but the same defensive line is now playing as a cohesive unit and aiding the resurgence of a Derby side hitting good form.

Derby County’s top scorer so far this season is going to be essential.

Averaging a goal every 176 minutes Mason Mount has four goals to his name and one assist in all competitions.

At 19, he is showing experience beyond his years in being an outlet, and an attacking threat for Derby.

Frank Lampard would have learnt that is going to be a key cog in the Rams machine this season already.

It is not sensationalist to say Richard Keogh had a dreadful start to the season.

His passing was wayward, and the defending was borderline horrific.

But since the Millwall defeat where he gave away a corner under no pressure, his form has turned.

Scoring in the Preston win capped a resolute return to form understanding how Frank Lampard wants his team, and defenders to play and he has turned doubters around, albeit for now.

The Rams have conceded once in their three-game winning run, and that is by no small part from Keogh who is leading the backline well at present.
