Derby County will look to get back to winning ways after a short international break, against a struggling Sheffield Wednesday side.

The Rams' recent unbeaten run came to an end last weekend after a 3-0 home defeat to Aston Villa - a surprising result considering Frank Lampard's men had gone six games without a defeat.

A trip to Hillsborough presents the perfect opportunity for Derby to get back to winning ways - Wednesday have lost four of their last five games and are without a win since early October.

The January transfer window is going to be a massively important time for Derby - their attacking force looks set for a promotion charge, but as Saturday's result demonstrates, Villa are shaky at the back.

They haven't kept a clean sheet in nine league games and have kept just three all season, so perhaps defensive reinforcements are needed in winter.

With that being said, Lampard should definitely look to reunite with former team-mate Gary Cahill in January - the Chelsea centre-half is set to leave Stamford Bridge on loan in January after recent reports.

The 32-year- old could solidify Derby’s defence for the second half of the season, his experience and knowhow could be of use to the Rams' at the business end of the campaign.

Fikayo Tomori and Richard Keogh have been exceptional together this season, however, at 32 years of age, the latter has proved slightly error-prone in Derby’s defence thus far this term.

Cahill would surely prove to be a more reliable option if he was to sign on, and if the England international is made available by Chelsea, then Derby should be at the front of the queue in the race to sign him through his connections with Lampard.
