Frank Lampard has confirmed that as it stands Matej Vydra is set to be a Derby County player for the start of the new season.

The Czech international, who was the top scorer in the Championship last season, was expected to leave Pride Park this summer, with a move to Leeds in the pipeline.

However, despite the transfer dragging on for weeks, personal terms were an issue and the Yorkshire side eventually moved on, bringing in Patrick Bamford instead.

That left Vydra, 26, in an awkward position, with the Rams also signing Jack Marriott from Peterborough in the meantime.

Nevertheless, Lampard revealed to TalkSPORT that there's no other offer on the table, but stressed things could change quickly:

"He’s staying. Certainly as it stands. There was obviously interest in him, there’s no getting away from that – and there would be, as he’s a very good player.

"He’s had an injury; he’s due to be fit to train with us, probably at the start of next week, and he’s our player.

"So, as it stands, he’s staying."

The Verdict

Lampard was keen to say 'as it stands' when it comes to Vydra, so there may be interest in the player that hasn't resulted in a formal bid yet.

Either way, he's handled this well and is being honest as things can change in football very quickly.

Derby are in a good position regardless, though, if Vydra stays it's obviously great as he is a fine player, but if not they have brought in real quality in the final third anyway.
