Derby County boss Frank Lampard was pleased with how his three debutants played as his side secured a comfortable 2-0 win over Oldham in the Carabao Cup last night.

Left-back Scott Malone, midfielder George Evans and striker Jack Marriott were all handed starts at Boundary Park, with the latter playing 82 minutes, whilst the other pair completed the game.

And, Lampard told the Derby Telegraph he was impressed with all three, issuing a positive verdict on Evans and Malone in particular.

"When you think of his age and what we have signed in George, technically I think he is very good and I think there is a lot more to come from him. I thought he did well. He had a lot of the ball and tried to move it quickly.

"Scott was very good and full of strong running. He has trained, but not had 90 minutes under his belt. He is a very fit lad and it was a really impressive debut."

Meanwhile, the manager expects more from Marriott once he gets up to speed:

"He can improve his game, definitely, because we are asking a lot of him. That was his first 80 minutes in a while, as well."

The Verdict

Lampard will have been delighted for the trio to get some minutes under their belt after joining the club.

As well as that, they all played a role in what was an impressive team performance and they got the result that they wanted.

Now, it's down to the players to build their fitness, continue to impress and force their way into the team for the upcoming league games.
