Derby County returned to winning ways in the Championship this week, with a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Wigan Athletic at Pride Park on Wednesday night.

The Rams bounced back from their 3-0 defeat at Charlton Athletic at the weekend and even though it wasn't the best performance, they were still able to pick up a much-needed win thanks to a 92nd-minute winner from Graeme Shinnie.

Phillip Cocu's side will be looking to build on that result with another victory at the weekend, but they face a tough game against Grant McCann's Hull City at the KCOM Stadium.

It has been over eight months since the two sides last met in the Championship, where Derby ran out comfortable 2-0 winners at Pride Park thanks to a brace from Martyn Waghorn.

It was an afternoon that saw the striker score his 100th career goal and former Chelsea and England defender Ashley Cole make his first appearance for Derby when came off the bench in stoppage time.

The result meant Derby maintained their Championship promotion push under Frank Lampard and left them seventh in the table, outside the play-offs on goal difference. As you would expect, these Rams fans were very pleased with the victory.

Even though it was earlier this year, quite a lot has changed since the last time that Derby played Hull.

The Rams would eventually go on to finish in the top six, beating Middlesbrough and Bristol City to the final play-off spot on the last day of the season, whilst Hull finished 13th in the table under Nigel Adkins.

Derby would in fact go on to reach the play-off final under Lampard, but they missed out on promotion in the end, losing 2-1 to Aston Villa in the final at Wembley.

At the end of the season, Lampard would leave to take charge of Chelsea and key players Mason Mount, Harry Wilson and Fikayo Tomori would all return to their parent clubs in the Premier League.

Derby decided to appoint former PSV Eindhoven and Fenerbahce manager Cocu as their new boss.

The Rams have made a bit of an underwhelming start to the season under their new manager though, and picked up only their fourth league win of the campaign against Wigan on Wednesday night.

As for Hull, they have also made a bit of slow start to the campaign under McCann and also picked up their fourth win of the season on Wednesday, with a 2-1 win at Nottingham Forest.

The Tigers' are currently 15th in the table after 13 matches - only one place and two points behind Derby - going into the clash on Saturday.

Both teams will be looking to build on their recent victories by picking up another three points at the KCOM Stadium and it'll be interesting to see which side comes out on top.
