Derby County manager Frank Lampard has jumped to the defence of loan winger Harry Wilson.

The Liverpool youngster has been one of the best players for the Rams this season, but a dip in his goalscoring form has coincided with a dip in form for the Rams in general, who having won only one in seven games following their mauling at Aston Villa today.

Lampard however, was quick to defend Wilson and his other loan players prior to the game at Villa today, which subsequently saw Wilson start on the bench.

"Our loans have taken a lot of headlines this season, mostly for good reasons but when you break it down Harry is 21, he played half a season at Hull last season and played very well." Lampard told the Liverpool Echo.

"I thank them for what they have given us so far, they are all great lads and form is temporary. They will all work out of it, if that is the case. Harry has certainly been one of our top performers this year."Lampard would add.

The Rams have seen their challenge for a top six spot crumble somewhat of late as they gave up sixth spot to in-form Bristol City. However, they do remain within touching distance, and could well end up in the play-off places if they can put a good run together in the final 11 games.

Wilson himself will be hoping to get back to the form which saw him emerge as one of the stars of the season earlier in the campaign.
