Aston Villa's 100% start to the season in all competitions shows Steve Bruce must be getting something right at Villa Park.

But following Villa's latest win, a 1-0 victory over League Two side Yeovil, did we learn anything new about Bruce's squad?

We discuss.....

George Dagless

I wouldn't say much to be honest.

It's early days and it was a changed side though Bruce would have wanted to see more from the fringe players and young players that did feature.

Perhaps that is something to chew over as to whether those that come in are match sharp enough - I don't think that's a big deal right now though.

Villa are lacking a little depth.

Changes were made after the win against Wigan Athletic at the weekend and it was a shaky performance against League Two Yeovil.

They narrowly made it through to the second round, and if players were hoping to make a statement to get into the league starting XI, then they still have a lot to do to impress the manager.

Alfie Burns

One thing that stood out was the importance of Conor Hourihane.

When John McGinn arrived, Hourihane’s place looked under threat, but he showed his importance with another goal.

The midfielder might still have his doubters, but he brings goals from midfield, which some of Villa’s other options don’t.

Gary Hutchinson

Outside the starting eleven they lack depth? Yeovil are one of League Two’s poorest sides and yet for large parts of the game they contained Villa and should have had a goal from the spot.

Had they scored the penalty, we might have learned a bit about Villa’s character, or maybe we did through the late goal.

I think the result highlighted their summer business being muted, it showed outside that core group of players they’re a long way off.

Mind you, Forest drew with Bury and Boro drew with Notts County, so can you truly draw anything from the EFL Cup first round?
