Colchester have handed a two-year deal to former VFB Stuttgart defender Danny Collinge, as reported by the Gazette and News.
He emerged at MK Dons but went over to Germany and played in their second division for Stuttgart. He returned to the UK last season and spent time with the U’s on a trial basis.
They’ve now moved to add the defender to their ranks on a permanent deal.
You wouldn’t expect to read the former Norwich and West Brom man’s name on a League Two round-up, but he’s been offered a surprise trial by Cambridge United.
The 37-year-old joined the Baggies last season but left at the end of his contract. He’s now set to train with the League Two side, who finished 88th out of 92 professional teams in England last season.
Portsmouth have withdrawn their interest in Plymouth striker Freddie Ladapo, as reported by the Portsmouth News.
It was widely reported they were one of two sides close to agreeing on a fee for the 26-year-old, but as they drop out it leaves Sunderland clear to pursue the 18-goal striker.
