Sunderland have had a decent opening 12 games in League One this season and finally seem to have turned a corner after an awful few years.

Jack Ross has come in as manager and along with the new owners have created a feel-good vibe not experienced at the Stadium of Light for a very long time.

The Black Cats currently sit in third place in the table, just one point behind second-place Peterborough United and four points off Portsmouth who top the table.

An impressive 2-1 win away to Bradford City on Saturday was the latest in a line of impressive results that look to be setting the Black Cats back on their way to the second tier.

But attention will most likely be slowly turning to the January transfer and where they can strengthen their squad.

Those who could be shipped out in order to fund their winter spending will also be getting noted down as the games progress.

So here is the perfect January double deal for Ross's side...

Maddison has been a star performer for the Posh over the last few seasons in League One and has done more than enough to earn a move to the Championship.

But with that not materialising over the summer, it is unlikely to in January.

As the winger is originally from the North East, however, the Black Cats could easily tempt him back to the region over the January window.

Patience has been running thin with the left-back and it may well have snapped when he was sent off against Peterborough United for a pointless kick.

In terms of ability, there will not be many better in League One, but it simply is not worth it with the drain he will be on their wages.

Getting rid of him would enable them to bring in a host of decent signings.
