With only four weeks until the start of the 2019/20 campaign, transfer rumours and stories are heating up as days go by.

After a hugely competitive race for promotion and fight to avoid relegation last season, next season's League One campaign is shaping up to be another enthralling one, with the likes of Rotherham, Sunderland and Ipswich are looking to fight for promotion.

Rotherham is where we start today's transfer round-up...

Rotherham's Purrington signs for Charlton

Newly-promoted Championship side Charlton Athletic have completed the signing of Rotherham defender Ben Purrington.

The left-back was a regular for Lee Bowyer's side in the second half of the 2018/29 campaign, and scored their crucial equaliser in the League One play-off final last term.

He put pen to paper over a three-year deal at The Valley, signing for an undisclosed fee.

Race on for Sunderland man

Aberdeen are believed to be strong admirers of Sunderland midfielder Dylan McGeouch, with the Scottish side keen on signing him before their Europa League clash with RoPS Rovaniemi next week.

The 26-year-old arrived at the Stadium of Light only last season, but made just 14 league starts for the Black Cats following his arrival from Hibernian.

Jack Ross' Sunderland have chased Ayr United forward Lawrence Shankland for a while, according to reports, but it looks as if the Black Cats are set to miss out on the prolific forward.

It is claimed by the Scottish Sun that Dundee United are set to win the race for the 23-year-old, who scored an outstanding 34 goals in 41 games last season.

Nottingham Forest, Hull City and Swansea have also been among those clubs chasing the forward.

Steve Evans has been a very busy man, completing another signing as Gillingham manager with the addition of Alfie Jones from Southampton.

The 21-year-old endured an impressive loan spell with St. Mirren last term, making 15 appearances and netting once for the Scottish side.

A move to Priestfield now awaits the towering defender, with Gills star Gabriel Zakuani struggling to recover from an injury sustained against Barnsley last season.
