Sunderland are in a state of limbo right now.

With the Black Cats struggling for consistency on the pitch it has left supporters feeling somewhat frustrated as the club look to push themselves back into promotion contention.

Thankfully things off the pitch seem to be moving in the right direction.

The Wearsiders have been closing in on a takeover deal for some time now as the club looks to head in a new direction.

A report from the Guardian emerged back in November that claimed that Sunderland had agreed a deal that would see the club come under new ownership.

A consortium led by Kyril Louis-Dreyfus and minority shareholder Juan Sartori are the buying party who would hold a deciding stake in the club if a deal goes through, with Stewart Donald reducing his stake to a minority share.

Things have gone a little bit quiet of late but with Louis-Dreyfus attending the club's match with Shrewsbury Town midweek, it seems that something could be on the horizon.

That speculation will only heighten following the 23-year-old's post on Instagram stories that shows 'the mackem dictionary - the definitive guide to understanding the words of Wearside'.

While this is certainly not official confirmation of a deal there's little doubt that it's a hint that could excite supporters who are hoping and praying that an exciting new era could be on the cards.

The verdict

This is very, very encouraging for Sunderland fans.

Kyril Louis-Dreyfus has dropped a key hint here that all-but suggests that a deal to takeover the club could be on the cards.

It remains to be seen when, or if, a deal will be done but this certainly suggests that an announcement could come sooner rather than later.
