Birmingham City defender Kristian Pedersen has insisted that his side made far too many errors during their 4-2 defeat to Cardiff City on Saturday.

Having entered the clash brimming with confidence following their recent victory over Luton Town, the Blues made a fantastic start to proceedings in the Welsh capital as Pedersen fired them ahead after three minutes.

Jude Bellingham and Dan Crowley both went close to doubling their side's advantage as the Blues continued to assert their dominance.

However, Cardiff levelled up the clash in the 30th minute courtesy of a penalty from Joe Ralls.

Curtis Nelson then gave them the lead as he bundled home after goalkeeper Lee Camp could only parry Aden Flint's effort.

Following the break, Cardiff were reduced to ten-men as Danny Ward was given his marching orders by referee Andy Madley for a rash challenge on Kerim Mrabti.

Despite this setback, Ralls added a third for the Bluebirds in the 69th minute.

Although Ivan Sunjic gave the Blues hope in the closing stages by firing home from 20 yards, Harlee Dean was sent-off for a challenge on Ralls who then completed his hat-trick from the penalty spot.

Speaking to BluesTV following the clash, Pedersen said: "Four goals is not good enough, especially not for (a team like) Birmingham.

"We have such a strong team and we know how good we are defensively when everybody is on it."

The defender later added: "What we have been lacking is in the final third of the pitch, being more clinical, we have to train more to be more sharp."

The Verdict

Having now lost four games on the bounce away from home, it is imperative that Birmingham address this particular issue in the coming weeks.

Whilst the Blues dominated vast sways of their meeting with the Bluebirds, they were unable to put their opponents to the sword at the Cardiff City Stadium.

If they are to launch a push for a top-six finish this season, Birmingham cannot afford to drop points on a regular basis on their travels in the Championship.
