Bristol City midfielder Korey Smith has shared footage of returning striker Benik Afobe in training as the Stoke City loanee continues to shake off the effects of an anterior cruciace ligament injury.

Just six games of the season had elapsed when Afobe, who had already scored three times, was stricken with the nasty knock, something which was expected to end his season straight away.

However, he has now returned to training with a matchday appearance not thought to be too far away now.

And his teammate Smith, who is recovering from a knock of his own, is clearly keen to keep pushing him in training, sharing a video of the exhausted striker on his Instagram story, along with the caption: "Let's goooo".

He could also be heard demanding Afobe "get up" in the footage, with the marksman finally replying: "I'm ready!"

Smith only made his return to the squad after a lengthy lay-off of his own on at the end of November, appearing 13 times in the Championship since as the Robins push for promotion.

As things stand, Lee Johnson's men sit in seventh place but just two points behind Preston who currently occupy the final spot in the play-off places.

A tough run in the second-tier is in the offing following their 1-1 draw with Millwall on Saturday, with Fulham, Blackburn, Sheffield Wednesday and Nottingham Forest all coming in quick succession.

They are now four matches without a win in the second tier and frustrations are starting to return to the Ashton Gate faithful so a win against the Whites on Saturday is of paramount imporance.
