Kiko Casilla has set his sights on the Premier League, with the latest Leeds United recruit determined to help his new employers over the line in the race for promotion.

Leeds have this morning announced the arrival of Casilla from Real Madrid, with the goalkeeper agreeing a four-and-a-half year deal at Elland Road.

He links up with Marcelo Bielsa’s squad who are flying in the Championship and in an excellent position to end a long wait for a top-flight return.

Shorty after his arrival was announced, Casilla was quick to highlight his ambition at Leeds.

“I’m really happy, I want to start a new challenge in English football and I am really keen to start as soon as possible,” he told LUTV.

“Leeds is a really historic club in England with a massive fanbase that is perfect and my desire is to help put the club in its real place in the Premier League.”

The 32-year-old arrives as Jamal Blackman’s replacement at Elland Road, after Leeds lost Blackman to a season-ending leg-break, which resulted in his return to Chelsea.

Now, Casilla will compete with Bailey Peacock-Farrell for the starting spot in Bielsa’s side, easing the pressure on Will Huffer in the process.

A debut could be just around the corner for the former Real Madrid stopper, with Leeds in action against Stoke City on Saturday afternoon.

The Verdict

With Leeds in pole position for a Premier League return, helping the club over the line has to be Casilla’s aim now.

He’s a high-profile addition at Elland Road and, at 32, he isn’t going to want to kick around in the Championship for too long.

Casilla, like all his teammates, will want to test himself in the Premier League.
