Sheffield Wednesday midfielder Kieran Lee has revealed his long-awaited return to first-team training ahead of this weekend’s clash with Stoke City.

The 30-year-old is yet to make an appearance this season and his absence a hot topic of conversation among fans but announced his return in a

Writing alongside a photograph of himself in training, Lee simply put: “It’s been a while.”

The former Manchester United youth graduate has not made an appearance for well over a year now, with a 3-1 defeat to Norwich City in December 2017 his last outing.

He has been a Wednesday player for nearly seven years now but in that time has only racked up 185 appearances in an injury hit spell.

Steve Bruce will be eager to extend his side’s 11 match unbeaten run when he takes his side to Stoke City this weekend, although it is not yet known whether Lee will be involved.

The verdict

It is obviously great to see a footballer finally coming back after such a long time out.

However, given his torrid history with injuries, I would find it hard to get too excited about his return if I were a Wednesday fan.

Maybe wait a few matches to make sure he does not pick up another knock first.
