Wolves moved back to the top of the Championship after a hard-fought 2-0 win at Reading in front of just under 4,000 visiting fans.

Ivan Cavaleiro gave the Black Country side the lead with a goal against the run of play and they were indebted to John Ruddy before Matt Doherty sealed the win with a fine late goal.

And, afterwards managing director Laurie Dalrymple took to twitter to share the below message praising the large away following that had made the journey to Berkshire.

He also predicted an attendance of around 29,000 at Molineux this Wednesday when Wolves take on Leeds.

Whilst that wouldn’t be a sell-out it demonstrates how far the team have come under Nuno Espirito Santo. Last season midweek attendances would be around the 20,000 mark but the fans are coming back in their numbers given the way the team is playing.

A lot of credit for that has to go to Dalrymple, who has been the reason behind various initiatives that have appealed to the fans, although the main reason of course is the fantastic football on the pitch.

The Verdict

It was a different Wolves that we saw on Saturday as they fought and scrapped for three points, with Reading having the better of the game.

However, it shows that they can win in many ways and will please the fans who once again turned up in huge numbers.

They welcome Leeds on Wednesday in what should be an electric atmosphere at Molineux and potentially another sell-out

if there’s a late surge in sales. Either way, crowds are well up on previous years and everyone connected with the

club deserves credit for how they’ve changed things.
