Wolves sporting director Kevin Thelwell has admitted the World Cup could force the club to be patient in their quest to bring in new players.

The Black Country side will already be on the lookout for new players to add to their squad for next season and know that the window is shutting earlier than usual this summer anyway, with an August 9 deadline.

And, Thelwell as quoted by the Express & Star, said that the World Cup not ending until mid-July is another problem for sides to deal with.

"It's going to be really difficult. Some players might want to make decisions before the World Cup, but not many. Players in it are hoping to do well and earn stronger deals."

However, he did add that Wolves have benefitted from securing promotion to the top-flight early, with Nuno Espirito Santo's men getting the job done by mid-April.

"The good thing on our side is we know who we are and where we are and we've managed to get some of our ducks in a row a little bit earlier than some clubs. We have to use that to our advantage to maybe get some deals done early."

The Verdict

You can't disagree with what Thelwell says as it makes sense for players to keep their options open if they are playing at the World Cup.

A good tournament could result in better sides coming in for you and more money so why would they rush into deals?

Although, having confirmed promotion last month, Wolves had had more than enough time to get the ball rolling on potential deals and that could be key in helping them land their targets.
