West Ham United manager David Moyes has confirmed the club are hopeful of a deal for Middlesbrough goalkeeper Darren Randolph still going through despite injury concerns, BBC Tees are reporting.

It has been no secret that Darren Randolph will be on the move this January after impressing during his time at Middlesbrough for both Tony Pulis and Jonathan Woodgate. Having signed back in 2017, Randolph was named in the PFA Championship Team of the Year for last season, showcasing his ability.

The Republic of Ireland international signed for the club from West Ham after they looked to strengthen in the Premier League. However, with goalkeeping injury crises striking along with serious underperformance from Roberto, David Moyes is eager to add to the position this window after taking over from Manuel Pellegrini last month.

The Hammers have expressed a strong interest in Randolph this month and the stopper arrived for a medical in an attempt to seal a move back to the London Stadium, but the move has been delayed by a thigh injury that has seen him miss out since Boro’s 2-2 draw against Hull City back in November.

Knees Up Mother Brown reported that the ‘keeper was to undergo a second medical so the club could achieve a full diagnosis of his problem.

Now, BBC Tees have revealed that David Moyes is still optimistic that the deal will go ahead as planned, just that the injury he suffered has delayed the process as the Hammers look to make sure of his fitness going forward.

The Verdict

This injury shouldn’t be severe enough to completely halt the move but the Hammers are taking the necessary precautions to ensure the deal is the right one to make for all parties.

Each side of this deal is still happy with it going ahead as planned, Randolph’s thigh injury shouldn’t take too long to recover from and the player wants the move so we shouldn’t see too much interference beyond extra medical procedures.
