West Brom midfielder Jake Livermore was delighted with his side's performance after beating Stoke City 2-1 at the Hawthorns on Saturday, reports the club's official website.

Dwight Gayle scored both the goals whilst Livermore provided one assist but also conceded a penalty and was lucky to stay on the pitch after handling on his own goalline.

We were disappointed with the last result at Boro but it was great to bounce back with a decent victory against Stoke," Livermore told the club's official website.

We’re trying a different style of play. It’s a different type of football to what we have played the last few years. We need our fans to be with us and they have been to be fair. We appreciate their patience and support."

It was a big win for the Baggies and saw them climb to eighth in the table whilst their opponents remain in an underwhelming 17th position.

Gayle opened the scoring on the 16th minute with one of the goals of the weekend and possibly the season, turning brilliantly after collecting Kieran Gibbs' pass before rounding Butland to open the scoring.

A long ball over the top from Livermore was too tempting for the former Peterborough United and Crystal Palace man who rifled it home on the half-volley, catching Butland out at his near post.

Benik Afobe missed a penalty after Livermore had handled on the line before Erik Pieters rifled home a brilliant consolation but it was too little too late for Gary Rowett's side.

The verdict

Livermore is proving to be a very important player for West Brom this season and is doing a brilliant, if unspectacular, job in the middle of the park.

The work he puts in is crucial in allowing the likes of Rodriguez, Gayle, Phillips and Barnes to work their magic at the other end.
